• Dr. Kevin Soden is an international award-winning medical journalist who serves as the host for Retirement Living TV’s Healthline, the Emmy winning show voted the best health/fitness show on cable TV in 2008. He has received numerous awards for his medical journalism including Emmy’s, Telly’s, a Freddie, several awards from specialty medical societies, and has twice been given the National Award for Excellence in Medical Reporting from the National Association of Medical Communicators. His Whole Body Health TV series has won several Emmy’s and, over the last 20 years, he has worked at CBS, NBC News Channel and on NBC's Today Show. He was an emergency room doctor for 23 years and now serves as the worldwide Medical Director for Texas Instruments. He is also a courtesy Professor at the Univ. of Florida College of Medicine. Previously, he was the founder of Health Care Savings -the oldest, largest, physician-owned managed care organization in the Carolinas.

    Kevin published The Art of Medicine: What Every Doctor and Patient Should Know...a critically acclaimed book focusing on improving doctor-patient communications. He is also the primary author of a consumer medical book Special Treatment: How to Get the High-Quality Care Your Doctor Gets. He is also a contributing author to A Practical Approach to Occupational and Environmental Medicine and to Physician Leaders: Who, How and Why Now? He is currently working on a book about life and leadership entitled From the Emergency Room to the Board Room and has just completed a series of articles outlining a Prescription for Health that helps both men and women obtain maximal health, find happiness and lead the lives that give meaning to life. He also is a regular contributor to numerous popular men’s and women magazines. Kevin speaks frequently to both medical organizations as well as business groups on a wide variety of general health topics including stress, humor and leadership.
  • Marleen Eijkholt is an Assistant Professor of Medical Humanities at Davidson College and co-chairs the Ethics Consultation Committee at Carolinas Medical Center. Prior to her current positions, Marleene was a Clinical Ethics Fellow at the Alden March Bioethics Institute and a postdoctoral researcher at the National Core for Neuroethics (CA). Marleen has an LL.B/LL.M degree from Maastricht University (NL), and a PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence from the University of Manchester (UK). She has published several papers and chapters in national and international journals and speaks at national and international conferences. Marleen is excited about combining ethical, legal and philosophical theories with the clinical reality in her professional life as an ethics consultant, presenter, educator and researcher.
  • Dr. Clark Gaither is a family physician, author, blogger, speaker, corporate consultant, and personal life coach. Also known as Dr. Burnout, he is an expert in the identification, mitigation, and prevention of physician job-related burnout. A graduate of East Carolina School of Medicine, he was honored as Family Physician of the Year in 2002 by the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians.
  • Shawn Smith RN, MSN serves as a Nurse Coach in the Population Health Management department of Integra Health and Wellness. She is a nurse leader and educator who brings over 20 years of experience in healthcare and comes to us with her Master of Science Nursing degree in Nursing Education. Her most recent experience at a large tertiary center involved managing education for service excellence teams and leading management teams to improve customer service and employee engagement. Her clinical background includes: clinical supervisor roles in acute and non-acute care areas, Emergency Services, inpatient setting nurse management and clinical coordinator positions. Shawn also serves as Adjunct Faculty at UNCC as an instructor for Health Informatics course work.
